SMU Assistant Professor of Law, Eugene Tan commented that the Workers Party (WP) should respond positively to public queries, so as not to be perceived as ?choosing only to make a stand on issues that are advantageous to themselves?. According to reports in 2008, WP had proposed to amend a motion in Parliament as the party was in favour of a ?single constituency; one candidate per party? system instead of the Group Representation Constituency (GRC) system. The motion was not amended and WP cast its vote of rejection. Low Thia Khiang said at the time that he agreed with the view that a by-election should not be postponed indefinitely after a Parliamentary seat had been left vacant. However, as WP was opposed to the GRC system, it decided not to support the motion.
