SMU Assistant Professor of Law Eugene Tan was among the nine new Nominated Members of Parliament (NMPs) announced by the Parliament Secretariat yesterday. Of the 50 nominees, only three failed to make the grade. However, as the Constitution only allowed a maximum of nine individuals to be selected as NMPs, the final shortlist of nine to be appointed was put forward by the Selection Committee headed by Speaker of the House, Mr Michael Palmer for the President's approval after careful deliberation.
