Commenting on the saga, SMU Assistant Professor of Law Eugene Tan reckoned that it was a good move by SPP secretary-general, Chiam See Tong to clarify the Party's stance with regard to the allegations made by the ex-Party leaders that the election process of SPP's Central Executive Committee (CEC) was unconstitutional. This would enable the public to view the leadership dispute of the Party from another perspective. If Chiam had remained silent on the issue, it could have been interpreted as an acknowledgment of the allegations.
