SMU Assistant Professor of Strategic Management Terence Fan commented on the reactions to the massive disruption on SBS Transit's North East Line (NEL) on 15 March and said that in the past, there could be some room for error. But now that the population has grown, and the system is running at capacity, minor problems can trigger something big. He also called for greater competition in the public transport sector and said that every route should be opened up for bidding once every five to 10 years.
