SMU students launched BuRP Cafe at Punggol Community Club last year through the global, non-profit Sife (Students in Free Enterprise) programme. Sife encourages students to start a business which passes on skills to a needy community group. The cafe is staffed by 'disadvantaged' people and has, for example, enabled a lady who is deaf and mute, to become a cook.
