While Mr David Thorairajan Manickam was spending a total of about 8 years in jail for gang-related offences, the realisation that he was 21 and did not even have an N-level certificate made him think hard. He did N levels in 2005 and scored five distinctions for his O levels a year later. He scored five Bs for his A levels ? all while in prison. Mr Manickam did a double-degree programme at SMU, and in 2010, he was awarded a National Youth Council award for being a youth role model.
