While the Attorney-General is not obliged to disclose reasons why he charged an accused in a certain way, law dons and lawyers say it would be helpful for him to explain when two persons are involved in the same crime and one faces a reduced charge. SMU Assistant Professor of Law Jack Lee Tsen-Ta commented that ?Singapore prosecutorial decisions impact upon the rights to life and personal liberty of offenders, I would like to see the courts adopting a more robust attitude towards the Public Prosecutor's non-disclosure of reasons.? ?Ultimately, the judgement emphasises the fact that the officers of the Attorney-General's Chambers have the awesome responsibility of determining whether offenders face the death penalty or not,? he added.
