Minister Khaw Boon Wan at Parliament yesterday: Govt to give priority to first-time HDB buyers; 100,000 flats to be built in next 5 years

SMU Assistant Professor Eugene Tan believes that while the Government has pledged to build more flats, it may not be willing to give promises on pricing for these flats. This issue ought to be addressed by the Government, as the people would expect public housing to be affordable in order for the Government to realise its “Home for Everyone” objective.  “Although many would like to find out about the actual cost of a flat,” said Asst Prof Eugene Tan, “a question to ponder would be who/which party should then bear the subsidy if the prices of new flats are lowered further?”
