An SMU study published earlier this year found that Singapore women were ?significantly more? materialistic than their American counterparts and tended to stress a potential marriage partner's earning capacity rather than traits like kindness. The study polled undergraduates in Singapore and the United States and probed why, despite having similar per capita incomes, Singapore's fertility rate was less than half of that in the US.
