Asst Prof Eugene Tan says while Chiam See Tong contested Potong Pasir in the last elections under the Singapore Democratic Alliance ticket, voters were voting for him and not the party and so this ward should stay with Singapore People's Party which will be represented by Chiam's wife, Lina Chiam.
