Western lending practices caused crisis: Mahathir

Speaking at an Islamic finance conference in Singapore yesterday, former Malaysian Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said that Syariah-compliant lending can succeed where the West has failed. Singapore has been ramping up offerings in Islamic finance and will soon have the Singapore Management University train scholars here on Syariah-compliant banking and investment.
