Following the newly published ISO 26000: 2010 Guidance on Social Responsibility by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), Assistant Professor Eugene Tan opined that ISO 26000 can be viewed as a "soft law" instrument in which the focus is to develop consensus, and encourage the internalisation of desired values and norms. He also commented that it is crucial for Singapore to take ISO 26000 seriously as it can be a valuable differentiator, giving a boost to our competitive advantage.
