Chinese clan associations in Singapore can play a definite role in helping new citizens settle into life in Singapore. Clan associations can also redefine their roles according to the needs of these new citizens. To welcome its new members, the Xiamen clan association assembled a group of about 10 volunteers comprising foreign students and new citizens. Leading the volunteers was a Singapore Management University Master student, who briefed the new members on rules and regulations and interacted with them in a light-hearted way.
