SMU launches EMBA programme with a S'pore-China-India-US tie-up
The 13-month modular EMBA programme is designed for the busy professional while offering them exposure in Singapore, China, India and the US
Singapore, 24 Sep 2010 – The Singapore Management University (SMU) launches its first Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) programme tailored for top talents who endeavour to become innovators and captains of their industry. While it is modular in design to suit the busy professional, participants will also have the chance to study at top partner universities in China, India and the US.
The programme enables participants to have first-hand knowledge of the current political, economic, social and legal environments of fast-growth economies in Asia. The programme involves classroom teaching, industry visits to the corporate headquarters of some of the world’s most successful firms and top management interactions which will help groom participants as global leaders. Classes will be conducted at SMU and the campuses of our partner universities – The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, Indian School of Business and Peking University. The EMBA will gather participants for a week at a time every two months. In total, participants will spend six weeks in Singapore and one week each in US, China and India over the 13-month programme.
“Our approach is built around delivering a blend of forward-looking advances in business research and industry practice. The programme provides an ample opportunity for the participants to add value back to their organisations by exposing them to cutting-edge ideas, rigorously tested theories and a curriculum which allows them to engage in application-based projects,” says Professor Howard Thomas, Dean of the Lee Kong Chian School of Business.
Participants will work on an issue-based learning project where they can apply what they have learnt in class on a problem relevant to their company. In this, participants will be mentored by a faculty and also a senior staff from the company.
“Our SMU EMBA programme is specially designed for the global senior leader, like yourself who is interested in business innovation and growth. With the input of over 100 leaders in Asia, we have designed an innovative curriculum that integrates the tried and true philosophies and practices which scholars have vetted for decades with the evolving principles and nuances of this region. Our curriculum is designed to be practical, global and socially conscious,” says Professor Srinivas Reddy, Academic Director of the SMU EMBA programme and Associate Dean of SMU Lee Kong Chian School of Business.
The course has been designed around six core competencies that managers would need if they were going to succeed in driving growth in Asia’s greatest companies. These are: Business Acumen & Integrity, Global Perspective, Leadership & Vision, Managing Change & Agility, Resource Development and Sustainable Performance. Courses include Executing Strategy, Agile & Disruptive Strategy, Crisis Management & Advocacy, Innovation & Growth Management, Network & Alliance Building and Raising Capital & Resource Management.
Also part of the curriculum is the Industry Insights Series featuring thought leaders in areas, such as biotech, medical research, information technology, government, social science and law. This exposure to the latest trends and research issues will ensure that the participants are in the forefront of business and ahead of the curve.
“To get to the top, you have to learn from those at the top of their games. SMU brings together a world-class faculty and pre-eminent business leaders with regional and global experience into the classroom. That’s a learning environment worth investing in,” says Mr Pradeep Pant, President, Asia Pacific, Kraft Foods.
The programme seeks international applicants with leadership and strong management skills, with at least ten years of work experience. SMU EMBA Fellowships are awarded to a few select experienced individuals who have distinguished themselves as top performers within their organisations or in government service, and who possess a sterling academic record. Organisations are encouraged to nominate their high performing candidates for this fellowship. Tuition fees are S$98,000, which covers board and accommodation during the residential segments.
The SMU EMBA is the latest addition to the University's stable of 18 postgraduate degree programmes, including five PhD programmes. The first Master degree programme at SMU – the Master of Science in Applied Finance, was launched in 2002.
Application to the SMU EMBA closes on 30 November 2010 and the term will start on 25 April 2011.
