In this year's edition of the widely viewed Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings, Nanyang Technological University (NTU) tumbled 101 places, from 73rd to 174th place. The National University of Singapore (NUS) came in at 34th place, down four places from 30th last year. THE said the Singapore universities' drop in rankings was probably a result of the change in assessment criteria. Singapore Management University (SMU) was unranked because it is considered a specialised university.
