No diplomatic immunity for Ionescu: MFA

Singapore has informed Romania that its former charge d'affaires, Silviu Ionescu, is not protected by diplomatic immunity over a hit-and-run accident he was responsible for on Dec 15. SMU's international law expert [Asst Prof] Mahdev Mohan said the clarification was 'legally significant' as it confirms that Ionescu can be tried in the Singapore courts for his private misconduct, since he is no longer a diplomat here.
