The three universities here will raise tuition fees for two groups of students: those who joined last year, and those who will start their courses in August. For example, a foreign student admitted to SMU to read law this year will pay up to $17,480, close to 10 per cent more than a foreign student admitted into the same course last year. A new Singaporean student, on the other hand, will pay $10,920, 3 per cent more than a counterpart admitted last year. The universities last raised fees in 2008.
