The Career Summit with a difference
Singapore, 24 February 2010 – Singapore Management University (SMU) today kicked off the SMU Career Summit 2010, a recruitment initiative with a difference.
The summit-styled event brings together the many successful individual career talks and seminars SMU has organized over the years together into a two-day event, providing both potential employers and graduating students a one-stop shop for their respective talent recruitment and career search needs.
Some 70 companies will congregate in SMU for the Summit, organised conference-style, to deliver power breakfast talks, participate in networking sessions and talent scout. Some 600 senior SMU students are attending the event to find out more about the wide range of employers and career options available out there, from opportunities in the public sector, consultancy, retail, media, hospitality, financial houses, banks, events management, IT, real estate management, energy and commodity sectors.
A highlight of each day's Summit is the Talent Showcase, designed for SMU undergraduates to show employers the trademark SMU ‘difference'. For the first time, in a refreshing way to reach out to employers as ‘employees of choice', SMU students turn models for the day, togged out in the newest and smartest corporate and casual wear collections sponsored by Wing Tai Holdings, to showcase the all-rounded dynamism, creativity, professionalism and finesse behind the SMU graduate.
The Showcase also includes a segment by SMU students with seven children from D'artistes, a social enterprise that seeks to empower and integrate children with special needs into society through dance and theatre. This segment reflects the strong, on-going relationship that SMU students have with the social sector built up over the years through the university's Community Service Programme. The specially choreographed video presentation, catwalk and dance performances showcased to employers the versatile SMU graduate, who has enjoyed a broad-based education and possesses a strong sense of social responsibility and global perspectives through overseas and real-world exposure at SMU.
