SMU yesterday defended its decision to allow 20 of its students to leave for a New York study trip from May 15 to May 24. During the time of visit, the spread of H1N1 cases in New York had been contained and was localised in the borough of Queens, which was not part of the students' itinerary or intention to visit that area.
