Oracle partners with Singapore Management University to drive Business and IT skills development

Singapore, 11 July 2007 - Oracle and Singapore Management University (SMU) have partnered to establish the first Oracle Academy Enterprise Business Applications programme in Asia. As part of this agreement, the Oracle Academy will maintain an E-Business Suite On Demand applications environment for classroom instruction, providing Singapore's students with the opportunity to develop vital technology and business skills required for 21st century careers.

Together, Oracle and SMU will integrate technology into the School of Information Systems degree programmes, including core courses in the Information Systems Management curriculum and innovative supplementary workshops. In addition, this collaboration complements Oracle's other education initiatives in the country, Thinkquest and Think.com, and reaffirms its commitment to education in Singapore.

"Given the changes that have taken place on the business landscape, rote learning is no longer effective,” said Frank Koo, Managing Director, Oracle Singapore. “By leveraging the Oracle Academy programme, we will be able to give students the best preparation for 21st century careers. We will provide them experience with the applications, processes and day-to-day activities that drive today's top global companies.”

“We are very excited to be entering this partnership with Oracle Singapore as it provides our students hands-on experience with Oracle's cutting-edge technology,” said Prof Steven Miller, Dean of the School of Information Systems at SMU. “Using the Oracle Academy's E-Business Suite On Demand environment, our students will learn to leverage enterprise applications to drive business innovation.”

Under this agreement, the Oracle Academy programme will be introduced to over 170 students in 2007 and more than 300 by 2010.
