[Beijing, April 12, 2013] – A senior delegation from the Singapore Management University (SMU) led by President Professor Arnoud De Meyer visited Peking University, and is signing  a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Tsinghua University in Beijing. The new partnership aims to improve academic education and research through the annual exchange of students over a period of three years between Tsinghua School of Economics and Management and SMU’s School of Accounting, School of Economics and Lee Kong Chian School of Business.[1]

[Singapore, 15 May 2013 (Wednesday)]MasterCard today announced the recipients of the MasterCard MBA Scholarships for Women 2013.  Given the high quality of applicants this year, MasterCard has decided to award scholarships to four Singapore Management University (SMU) MBA students, instead of two, which it had originally intended under an agreement with the University.

[Singapore, 22 April 2013] – Singapore consumers are expecting inflation to continue to fall amid global declines and continued uncertainty around the weak global economic outlook, according to the latest findings of the SKBI-MasterCard Singapore Index of Inflation Expectations (SInDEx).

The SInDEx, which was jointly developed by Singapore Management University’s Sim Kee Boon Institute for Financial Economics (SKBI) and MasterCard, is derived from an online survey of around 400 randomly selected individuals from Singapore households.

[9 April 2013, Singapore] – Singapore Management University’s (SMU) School of Economics (SOE), supported by the International Trading Institute@SMU, will launch a Maritime Economics Concentration (MEC) in August 2013.  A first of its kind in Asia, the programme is tailored to groom SMU undergraduates for Singapore’s maritime sector, as the country enhances its position as a leading maritime hub in the world.  The announcement was made by Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, today at the Opening Ceremony of Sea Asia 2013.

[Shanghai, Singapore, 9 April 2013 (Tuesday)] – The Institute of Service Excellence at Singapore Management University (ISES) (卓越服务研究所) and the Pudong Innovation Research Institute (PIRI) (浦东创新研究院) today signed a Letter of Agreement (LoA) to embark on a joint research programme aimed at developing a comprehensive user satisfaction measure for services offered in Shanghai’s Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park (ZJPark) (张江高科技园区).

[Singapore, 5 April 2013 (Friday)] – The Singapore Management University (SMU) today announced the official launch of the Mrs Wong Kwok Leong Student Wellness Centre (WKLSWC; 黄马家兰学生心灵辅导中心). Strategically located at the Concourse of the University’s Li Ka Shing Library, the new facility was unveiled by Speaker of Parliament and Advisor to the National Council of Social Services, Mdm Halimah Yacob, who officiated at the launch ceremony as the Guest-of-Honour.

[1 April 2013, Singapore] – Singapore Management University’s (SMU) International Trading Institute, or ITI@SMU, marked its fifth anniversary at an industry event this morning.  The event was co-organised by SMU and International Enterprise (IE) Singapore, the government agency driving Singapore’s external economy.  ITI@SMU, which has been playing a key role in nurturing local talents in the global trading sector, also announced two new initiatives, targeted at undergraduates and postgraduates, to add to the steady stream of global-ready local talents for the sector.
