On 21 October 2025, SMU Academy held its SMU Academy Day 2025 and signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with five local polytechnics and the Institute of Technical Education (ITE). Eligible graduates of professional diplomas from local polytechnics can receive course credits based on their work experience when pursuing further studies at SMU Academy. SMU Academy has also established a pathway for ITE graduates to enter postgraduate courses directly. Subsequently, graduates holding a higher professional diploma or diploma from a polytechnic can obtain credit exemptions when applying for SMU Academy’s Industry Graduate Diploma or Industry Practice Master of Digital Economy programmes.
SMU President Professor Lily Kong said learners must be proactive in lifelong learning and called for stronger collaboration among educational institutions to create seamless learning pathways. She added that the new initiative offers Singaporeans practical opportunities to advance and fulfil their aspirations. Jack Lim, Executive Director of SMU Academy highlighted the vast pool of adult learners who can benefit from the opportunities presented by the newly signed MOU.
