In a commentary, SMU Professor of Urban Climate and Co-Chair of Working Group II of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Winston Chow and Dr Mukesh Gupta, science officer of the working group focusing on climate change impacts, vulnerabilities and adaptation, discussed the significance of the IPCC's upcoming special report on cities for South-east Asia. They explained how cities are impacted by climate change and noted that the special report will encourage policymakers to implement policies aimed at reducing physical climate risk and promoting low-emissions living. To achieve these goals, they called for the involvement of urban residents, businesses, civil society organisations, policymakers, and professionals in addressing climate change.
