In a commentary, SMU Associate Professor of Law Eugene Tan discussed how the St Joseph’s Church stabbing incident is a major test of our response as individuals and as a community. He cited two stabbing incidents that occurred in England and Sydney as examples to highlight the importance of effective and timely crisis communications in preventing rumour-mongering from having a life of its own. He also noted how the solidarity demonstrated following the Church stabbing incident showed unequivocal condemnation of violence in a place of worship, and concluded that we should not take anything for granted but consider how we would respond, individually and collectively, should there be an attack of graver gravity.
