SMU postgraduate student Mumtaz Abdul Halim is the sole recipient of the inaugural Alla'udin-Masjid Khalid Scholarship, awarded at the LBKM Scholarship Ceremony on 13 September 2024. She is pursuing a Master of Laws (LLM) in Law and Technology at SMU, a newly launched track that focuses on legal and regulatory issues in areas like data management, artificial intelligence (AI), and fintech. Mumtaz is particularly interested in how AI and technology can be used as evidence in legal cases, addressing challenges in areas like domestic violence and emotional abuse, where evidence is difficult to provide. Her personal experiences, including her mother’s survival of domestic violence, have inspired her to use education as a tool for independence and to pursue a career that integrates technology with law for greater societal impact.
