In a commentary, SMU Associate Professor of Law Eugene Tan discussed Singapore's move to designate businessman Philip Chan as a Politically Significant Person under the Foreign Interference (Countermeasures) Act (FICA). He noted that not much has been revealed about the purpose and nature of Mr Chan's activities conducted or planned on behalf of foreign principals, nor the covert manner in which these activities were conducted. Assoc Prof Tan opined that at present, the authorities are unlikely to release more information about his political activities. Doing so might reveal the source of the information and how the authorities had responded.
