A nap cost his dream, but he finally became a lawyer through determination

Years ago, SMU alumnus Andrew Chan had dreamed of making law his first choice after receiving his A Level results, but by accident, he "missed" the law school entrance examination and ended up going to the United Kingdom to study psychology on a Public Service Commission Overseas Merit scholarship. Upon returning to Singapore, he worked at the Ministry of Defence for 22 years, serving as the department's chief psychologist and head of the defence psychology unit. His wife knew that his love for law had never diminished and encouraged him to pursue a Juris Doctor Law programme at SMU’s Yong Pung How School of Law. After three years of hard work, he has finally fulfilled his dream, and was called to the Bar this year.
