SMU study: Frequent use of smartphones may lead to forgetfulness and distraction

SMU released a research report on Friday (March 10), noting that frequent usage of smartphones will lead to more daily cognitive failures. Cognitive lapses occur when people receive too much information on their mobile phones and experience problems such as forgetfulness, distraction and a wandering mind. In addition, frequent smartphone use may interfere with concentration and execution. This study, titled “Smartphone use and daily cognitive failures: A critical examination using a daily diary approach with objective smartphone measures”, was led by SMU Assistant Professor of Psychology Andree Hartanto, and published in the British Journal of Psychology.
