In a commentary, Jack Lim, Executive Director of the SMU Academy, discussed the importance of career mobility in providing job security for Singaporeans and how prodding workers to upskill and businesses to invest in their workers must be a mainstay of the Singapore Budget. He noted that traditionally, institutes of higher learning have looked at facilitating industry experience through internships, there is now a need to bring companies into the classroom – at scale and with haste, and more must be done in removing potential barriers that impede industry practitioners from entering the classroom to impart knowledge to shorten the education-industry gap.
