SMU is holding its Commencement ceremony from Tuesday (July 26) to July 29. The 3,268-strong Class of 2022 represents the largest batch of graduates since the University was established in 2000. Samuel Chan Zheng Wen, who graduated with double degrees - Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Business Management, was named the University Valedictorian for being the most exceptional student in the graduating cohort. He received the Kwek Hong Png Valedictorian Award and SPH Valedictorian Award. During his time at SMU, he joined the SMU Law Moot Club, SMU StageIT and the SMU Ambassadorial Corps. He shared how his parents, who have only secondary school qualifications, are his main driving force. Samuel will join Drew & Napier as a trainee lawyer early next year. Another graduate of this cohort is Joshua Tseng, whose vision had gradually deteriorated after being diagnosed with glaucoma at the age of seven, and is now left with less than 10 per cent of his vision. Joshua, who was conferred the Goh Chok Tong Enable Awards in 2020, shared about his challenges and how he overcame them to successfully complete his tertiary education.
