In a commentary, SMU Associate Professor of Law Eugene Tan discussed the debate on the Committee of Privileges (COP) report on the lies told by former Workers’ Party (WP) Member of Parliament Raeesah Khan, and what it means for WP and Singapore. He also noted that Singapore had marked the 80th anniversary of the fall of Singapore during the Second World War on Tuesday, and it was a sombre reminder that not only must we not take our defence and sovereignty for granted but also that Singaporeans must fervently want to uphold and defend the type of parliamentary democracy in Singapore. He opined that it must be one characterised by the values and norms of integrity, trust, and moral courage to do right by Singapore and Singaporeans.
