Universities must change or lose their place to alternative education providers

In the third of a four-part series on The Evolving Role of Universities held by The Straits Times Education Forum 2022 in partnership with SMU, OECD's education chief Andreas Schleicher spoke to The Straits Times' senior education correspondent Sandra Davie on how universities must evolve to stay relevant. He stressed that universities must make changes, or they may lose the “monopoly” they have on providing higher education and accreditation for workers to access higher-level jobs. He shared his views on what universities can do to prepare students for jobs of the future and the importance of multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary learning.
