SMU law students win award for their solution to tackle online harm

By the SMU Corporate Communications team

A group of four SMU Yong Pung How School of Law students, Celeste Ng, Liew Qian Hui, Lee Xin Yi and Exceline Angelia Darmawan formed team Go Women to participate in “Hackathon for a Better World” in July this year.

Together, they proposed a Telegram feature that would deter leaks of nude photos, using artificial intelligence. Their solution to foster safer online spaces for the female community won them the Most Innovative Idea Award in the competition organised by DBS Bank, the Singapore judiciary and the Ministry of Communications and Information.

The students were featured in an article by The Straits Times on 28 October 2021. To read more about their winning idea, click here.
