SMU’s Accountancy Graduate Kendrick Low wins Priscilla S. Payne Student Performance Award as top global performer for the Certified Management Accountant examinations

Kendrick Low Wei Ming, a recent graduate from the SMU School of Accountancy, has received the Priscilla S. Payne Student Performance Award for his outstanding top score on the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) exam by the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA). The award is presented to the top performing student candidate from all around the world who took both parts of the CMA exam in a single window.

Kendrick took the CMA exams in September and October 2020 and he will be joining the IMA’s Annual Meeting of Members virtually in June this year.

Currently working as an accountant at PSA Corporation Limited, Kendrick’s role is to prepare financial reports to help the management make informed decisions. He enjoys the fast-paced and time-sensitive environment that he is currently working in.

When asked how he feels about achieving this award, Kendrick says, “I was very fortunate in my circumstances. I am thankful to SMU for nominating me for the CMA scholarship, which covers the examination and membership fees. It was also a coincidence that I was nominated for the Wiley Efficient Learning award the following year, which provided me with excellent self-study materials for the CMA exams. The syllabus covered in the CMA exam is very relevant in my field of work. Equipped with the knowledge, I hope to be able to value add to my team and my company.”

According to Kendrick’s mentor, Associate Professor of Accounting (Education) and Associate Dean (Teaching and Curriculum) Seow Poh Sun, “Kendrick was excellent in my class and scored a distinction in his final grade. He performed outstandingly in his studies and completed his degree with a Summa Cum Laude (Highest Distinction). Academics aside, Kendrick is a very motivated individual and I believe he will be a good addition to any company.”

Lee Kong Chian Chair Professor Cheng Qiang, Dean of School of Accountancy also applauded Kendrick saying, “We are very proud of Kendrick’s achievement, and I would like to commend him for being the top performer of the CMA exam results globally. This is a strong testament to the academic rigour of our Accountancy programme and to the quality of our students when measured against their peers both locally and globally.”

Congratulations once again to Kendrick for achieving outstanding scores for the CMA.
