Student from low income family studied hard and obtained law degree

25-year-old Berwin Chua Zheng Yang who is graduating Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Law, had applied thrice before his dream to be accepted into SMU School of Law came true. Coming from a humble family background, he was grateful for the financial aid that was awarded to him. He shared that the current pandemic has greatly affected the business of his father’s SME business. To make matters worse, his father suffered a fall and is now unable to work. As such, Berwin is eager to start work at the end of this year so that he can help support the family. Berwin also served 160 hours of community service, including volunteering regularly at the Legal Clinic in Chong Pang Community Centre. His personal experience has prompted him to work hard and also give back. The SMU held its virtual graduation and career fair yesterday, to celebrate the graduation of its 17th batch of 2921 graduates.
