SMU alumnus Abbas Ali Mohamed Irshad, who is also a Nominated Member of Parliament, started inter-religious non-profit group Roses of Peace to strengthen religious harmony in 2012. He had also founded SMU’s Apolitical Society, where students discussed issues on politics and civil society, in addition to setting up the Muslim Society in SMU.
