SMU Master of IT in Business ranked 1st in Asia, for second year running

14th worldwide out of 83 Masters in Business Analytics programmes from 18 countries

SMU's School of Information Systems has confirmed itself as home to Asia’s best and one of the world’s best Masters in Business Analytics programmes according to the QS Masters in Business Analytics Rankings 2020. The School’s Master of IT in Business (MITB) programme was ranked 1st in Asia for the second year in a row and 14th worldwide out of 83 Masters in Business Analytics programmes from 18 countries around the globe.

This is the second time that SIS participated in the rankings, with the MITB programme ranking in the top 12 places for two out of five indicators. The programme was ranked 6th worldwide for employability, and 12th worldwide for alumni outcomes. Its scores (out of 100) were above the global average for three indicators: employability 78.5 (global average 40.4); alumni outcomes 74.8 (global average 39.4) and diversity 60.0 (global average 56.9).

The QS Global Employer Survey asks employers from which schools they prefer to hire graduates. QS analyzes all of these responses and weights certain votes more than others depending on the ranking of interest. The survey response is very robust each year and includes employers across all sectors, types, and geographic regions. These include leading hiring companies such as McKinsey, Google, Siemens, Airbus, and many more. Employability represents 30% of the total ranking score.

The QS Alumni Outcomes Index looks at the schools and universities associated with thousands of CEOs, executives and board members at the most respected and recognized companies in the world. To do this QS evaluates more than 150 global and regional lists, including the Forbes 2000, the FT Global 500, top social media influencers, and various specialist publications. Alumni Outcomes reflect 20% of the total ranking score.

The QS Diversity Indicator reflects the diversity of nationality and gender of the student body and faculty. Diversity represents 10% of the total ranking score.

Dean, School of Information Systems, Professor Pang Hwee Hwa commented, “This ranking once again reinforces the global stature of the SMU School of Information Systems and the Master of IT in Business in particular. The programme’s top 6 global ranking for employability and top 12 for alumni outcomes reflect our continual effort to harmonize our curriculum with the skills needed in the industry. Our graduates are highly sought after by employers and our alumni enjoy successful careers in a wide variety of industries and roles. For a university and programme which are relatively young by world standards, we believe this is a significant achievement.”
