SMU sent out more than 250 graduates from its School of Information Systems each year between 2016 and 2018 with the figure set to increase in the future. Its intake target this year is 450. It previously announced two new computing related degree programmes: computer science, and computing and law, this year and in 2020 respectively. This is in view of the rising demand for graduates trained in areas such as AI, data analytics and cyber security. SMU School of Information Systems Dean Professor Pang Hwee Hwa said, “Computing is reaching every industry, creating new jobs and changing existing ones. Companies and public agencies are employing digital technology to transform their business models and processes.”
