Going from globalisation to regionalisation

In a commentary, SMU Adjunct Professor Joergen Oerstroem Moeller explored the impact of weakening US power as globalisation loses its allure. He sees nation-states turning to regionalisation to safeguard their interests. As the transition from globalisation to regionalisation takes place, he cautioned that it could get risky if nation-states dissatisfied with the US-led global system are tempted to redefine spheres of interest vis-à-vis neighbours or test limits to retrieve what they regard as lost. In some cases, a lack of restraint could escalate into military conflicts.
