In the second of a four-part SMU-Straits Times series about on degrees versus skills, OECD’s education and skills director Andreas Schleicher talked about the need to study and whether universities add value to those pursuing a degree. He stressed that a degree is a poor proxy for skills, and any skills and knowledge acquired often becomes obsolete quickly this fast-changing world. He said there is a need to examine the real value of a university education and measure it against the relative value of skills-based vocation qualifications that are currently under-valued.
