SMU’s status as an Ashoka changemaker campus was highlighted in a profile of Bill Drayton, the founder of Ashoka, a non-profit organisation and pioneer of social entrepreneurship. Ashoka scouts for and funds early stage social entrepreneurs who are taking action in innovative ways to address social, human and environmental problems. The Ashoka Fellow network today numbers well over 3,000 in around 93 countries. There is also a network of changemaker schools and campuses comprising more than 1,000 elementary, middle and high schools and universities. In Asia, Ashoka has backed more than 890 social entrepreneurs, there are 20 changemaker schools and SMU is a changemaker campus.
