Setting up business venture to help villagers become entrepreneurs

SMU Lee Kong Chian School of Business alumnus Jamon Mok was featured in an article where he shared the genesis of his company, Backstreet Academy, a start-up which curates localised experiences, tours and activities - mainly traditional skills such as sculpting and fishing. More than just a money-making venture, however, the peer-to-peer platform sets out to help villagers in developing countries leverage on their skills to earn a living and become entrepreneurs. Mr Mok said that he was inspired to come up with such a business model having participated in many overseas community projects when he was an undergraduate at SMU.
