In a special feature, SMU Associate Professor of Psychology Angela Leung spoke of her recently completed study that demonstrates links between cosmopolitanism and environmental consciousness. The study, conducted on Singaporean, Australian and American participants, found that people who are more culturally open tend to be more environmentally friendly. Through the study, Associate Prof Leung measured the degree of cosmopolitanism, global pro-socialism and respect for cultural diversity. She previously conducted an experiment in the US where she tried to see if people who are exposed to other cultural experiences tend to be more creative. She plans to expand her research to xenophobia in future.
