Temasek succession plans under scrutiny as Ho takes sabbatical

SMU Professor of Finance Melvyn Teo commented on the possible candidates for the position of Temasek Holdings’ Chief Executive Officer (CEO), after the eventual departure of the current CEO Ms Ho Ching. Referring to Charles Goodyear, the CEO designate to replace Ho in 2009 but who left within months over differing views on strategy, Prof Teo said: “After the experience with Goodyear, they would be more inclined to go for an internal person.” He added: “The person needs to have global investment experience. At that level, you can’t be a specialist any more.”
