In an interview, Associate Professor of Quantitative Finance (Practice) Pei Sai Fan shared his views on the regulation and governance of internet finance in China and Singapore, and the internationalisation of the renminbi. He said that regulating internet finance is a very delicate exercise which should keep up with time, timed appropriately and strike a good balance between financial innovation on one hand and systemic stability and investor protection on the other. He stressed that building trust in internet finance will be key to ensure its long-term healthy development. It is therefore important for the operators such as P-2-P platform operators to put in place good credit risk management measures and proper safeguards and measures to protect investors’ rights while not stifling or suppressing innovation.
