The Xinhuanet Thinker Global Forum, “25th Anniversary of Sino-Singapore Diplomatic Relations: Economic Cooperation and Opportunities”, was co-organised by SMU and attended by eminent business and academic guests. Keynote presenters included SMU President Professor Arnoud De Meyer; Singapore pioneer Mr Lee Khoon Choy, who was formerly PAP MP, former Senior Minister of State of Foreign Affairs, and Ambassador to Eight Countries; NUS East Asian Institute Director Professor Zheng Yongnian; and Bank of China Singapore Branch President Ms Guo Ningning. Professor De Meyer said in his opening speech that Sino-Singapore collaborations have leaped and grown tremendously in the last 25 years of diplomatic relations and partnerships. SMU has also seized the opportunities and collaborated with institutes of higher education and businesses. He said, “SMU has partnered Xinhuanet on a series of ‘China Forums’ held in China as academic and business platforms to share and discuss thought leadership topics on China’s growth and internationalisation.” Professor De Meyer and Professor James Tang, Dean of SMU School of Social Sciences, along with Professor Zheng and Ms Guo, were presented with letters of appointment as Xinhuanet’s International Thinkers.
