Professor Mari Pangestu, who was Minister of Trade for the Republic of Indonesia from 2004 to 2011, gave a talk in the Presidential Distinguished Lecture Series held at SMU. She said that Indonesia faces a challenging journey towards economic growth and needs to develop its creative industries, diversify exports and focus less on commodity-based trading, put more focus on infrastructure and logistics, and make bureaucratic reforms. She added that Indonesia needs an investment stimulus.
