SMU has seen an increase in donations, with 858 alumni donors who contributed $112,639 in 2013, up from 147 donors who gave $19,752 in 2005. SMU currently has 14,000 alumni members. In contrast, NUS has more than 240,000 alumni members while NTU has more than 190,000. It was noted that SMU graduate Tim Mou Hui had helped to set up a fund for needy students in 2013. He had received a bursary and a bond-free scholarship, and decided to set up the fund a year after his graduation to fulfil a clause in his scholarship which required him to give back to SMU when he was able.
