Students from SMU and ITE College East installed 320 lightbulbs at underprivileged households in Marine Parade and Mountbatten on January 23. These energy-saving lightbulbs were donated by Electronics giant Panasonic Asia Pacific based on the number of unwanted mobile phones, laptops and other electronic items discarded through the Heartland E-Waste Recycling Programme, which was piloted in the two neighbourhoods in July 2013. Some 2,719 lightbulbs were earned from the pilot run, and the programme is now being expanded to five more neighbourhoods in the district over the next nine months.
