In a commentary, SMU PhD student Chen Xing Li noted that Alibaba’s successful public listing showed the world how China had progressed. The company’s listing took the world by surprise as it demonstrated that private enterprises in China have the potential to become world-class mega-enterprises and that China is moving on from mimicking enterprises of developed countries to a phase of creativity.
